Seattle

TO GO THERE

AER LINGUS, the Irish airline, has been operating four weekly flights between Paris and Seattle since May 2018, with a stopover in Dublin. The advantage: it is the only European airport with a US customs post. This way, all entry formalities to the United States can be completed without stress or long queues. The arrival in Seattle – with a nine-hour delay, it is better to remain calm – is therefore very smooth. While connecting times are cheaper in the outward journey than in the return, you can enjoy Dublin’s Aer Lingus lounge if you travel in business or for an entrance fee. Recently, Aer Lingus has been offering WiFi on board for around 15 euros throughout the flight in economy class, but free of charge in business. From Paris, the airline offers 13 North American destinations via Dublin, including Seattle and Philadelphia, while waiting for Montreal and Minneapolis.

AIR FRANCE: since March 2018, Air France has been offering a direct flight between Paris-CDG and Seattle-Tacoma airports. The airline offers five flights a week – except Monday and Friday – during the summer season. These flights are operated by Airbus A330-200 equipped with new cabins in Eco, Premium and Business. In parallel, Delta Air Lines, Air France’s partner on transatlantic routes, operates daily Airbus 330-300 flights from Paris to Seattle.

HOTELS IN SEATTLE

MARRIOTT SEATTLE WATERFRONT

Opened in 2005, this 352-room business hotel offers many advantages. Located on Alaskan Way, the avenue along Elliott Bay, it is both in the heart of Downtown Seattle and facing nature. Its admirable heated swimming pool, both outdoor and indoor, is one of its most beautiful assets, especially for the business traveller looking to get rid of the effects of jet lag. Elite Members customers have access to the business centre on the first floor as well as the M Club lounge which offers breakfast and snacks at any time of the day. As for the bedrooms and meeting rooms, most of them open onto the bay.

W SEATTLE

Inaugurated in 1999, this W hotel was the third of this iconic brand. In the heart of Downtown and the Financial District, it offers 424 rooms. Even if the very colourful lobby and its duck blue Egg armchairs have taken on a vintage note, its beautiful spacious rooms have kept up with the times. Located in a 26-storey building, the establishment offers often spectacular views.

SEASONS OVEN

The exceptional charm of this beautiful property still operates, about ten years after its opening. Its 143 spacious and bright rooms are located just in front of Elliott Bay. From the restaurant, which also hosts the breakfast service, you can overlook the water and the view leads to the emblematic Ferris wheel, illuminated in the evening. In summer, you can enjoy a superb outdoor swimming pool that seems to mix with the sea.

THOMPSON HOTEL SEATTLE

This is a very elegant and recent 155-room boutique hotel, with a strong point in sophisticated design. In 2017, Condé Nast Traveler selected it as one of the 75 most interesting hotels in the world. Located near Pike Place Market, it is definitely worth a visit. The most: a wonderfully designed rooftop overlooking the bay.

EVEN HOTEL: Opened in 2018 in the South Lake Union district, this brand new hotel from IHG’s health and wellness brand is a good way to combine contemporaneity, elegance, efficiency and budget – not too tight though. The place is colourful, ultra-connected and very much in tune with the times.

HOTEL FIVE SEATTLE: This is a standard hotel chain, without any luxury but with surprising decorative touches, that allows you to stay in Seattle for about $100 a night, almost in the city centre, a few minutes walk from the Financial District. A real record.

RESTAURANTS

THE LONDON PLANE

Concept store, pastry shop or restaurant? All three of course. It is a pleasure to walk through the door of this pretty pastel window installed in 2014, behind which an exquisite bread is made, a pear pie worthy of a great pastry chef or healthy and tasty Mediterranean-inspired dishes, served on beautiful tables made of raw wood. It’s a little expensive, but definitely one of the most pleasant addresses in Pioneer Square.

MAMNOON STREET

For mezze lovers, but also curious to discover the Amazon campus and its three futuristic spheres, here is the perfect address. We enjoy babaganoush, fattoush and tabouleh of plentiful quinoa, spicy roasted lamb, a delicious hummus, all while sipping a lemonade. Each dish is prepared on site, starting with the pita, soft and crispy at the same time. In this relaxed setting, you can also enjoy watching the busy Amazonians pass by.

BAI TONG THAI STREET

A welcoming Thai address in Capitol Hill, all covered in wood and wooded motifs, perfect for a quiet business lunch. On the menu, delicious curries, pad thai, fried rice among the best in this city turned towards Asia.

MBAR

This new bar-restaurant overlooks Lake Union as well as the MoPop, an incredible museum designed by Franck Gehry. This is the perfect place to have a drink and enjoy a smoked trout at nightfall, when the city starts to shine. Roof terrace on sunny days.

CORTINA

This restaurant, located at the foot of Two Union Tower, in the heart of the business district, attracts Seattlites. The reason? It is a brand new address – a “contemporary urban” Italian restaurant – of a local star, chef Ethan Stowell. On the menu: fresh pasta with poetic names, a creamy burrata and all Italy in a cosy setting.

When to go to Seattle
